In 1985, Galaxie founder John Cauffiel watched as steel plant closures and international competition rocked Detroit’s manufacturing base. But while local car bumper stickers asked, “Will the last one leaving Michigan turn out the lights,” John saw an opportunity: What if a company could link the developing manufacturing markets around the world with quality, used steel coil processing equipment that was becoming available in America’s heavy manufacturing sectors?
Soon, John was on a plane to scout a half dozen countries in Asia and the Pacific Rim – and Galaxie Corporation was born, becoming one of the first used steel machinery firms in the U.S. to venture into the worldwide market. In the years since, Galaxie also has innovated digital and internet tools that dramatically increase accuracy and response time for clients seeking the company’s services and equipment.
Today, Galaxie’s team of specialized sales executives and engineers navigate an international machinery marketplace that links nearly all fifty states with more than three dozen countries on six continents.

Galaxie’s Detroit-area headquarters includes a 60,000-square-foot, climate-controlled warehouse located only five minutes from Detroit Metropolitan Airport.
The facility features a huge inventory of top quality used steel processing equipment. We provide transportation so clients can see first hand the full selection of used steel processing equipment available. More space also is available in a second Galaxie warehouse located in the city of Detroit.
Galaxie now provides used metalworking machinery evaluations based on the many requests from auctioneers and appraisers.
